Do You Feel Stuck and Broken?
Do you ever just feel stuck and broken?
Sometimes I do. Sometimes we can feel like we're working hard, but not getting closer to our goals. It can feel like we keep going through the same struggles, pain, sin and failure. Maybe you just hurt for someone you love who is hurting and you wish you could fix their problems.
An old poet said, "To all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion." The guy who wrote this was Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived.
Solomon wrote in his book called Ecclesiastes that all of life seemed broken and meaningless. In that struggle he said these words, "To all the living there is hope." He uses a weird illustration to make this point: "A living dog is better than a dead lion." What an interesting word picture. Obviously a lion is stronger and more powerful than a dog, yet a dog that is alive can do way more than a lion that is dead.
I wish I always felt strong and confident like a lion. Sometimes we can feel more like a stray dog, struggling to survive. We can trust this: that if we're alive "There is Hope." You might feel stuck, but know that you are alive and there is hope. I don't know how we are going to make it past all of our hurts, but I know there's hope. I don't know what's next in our stories, but I know we're alive and I want to live to see what happens next. My hope is found in Jesus. I look to my creator to help me. I'm going to do my best to fix what I can and take steps towards my purpose, while trusting Jesus all the way.
"Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." Heb. 12:1-2
